Despite its declining popularity among younger audiences, the platform remains far from obsolete. The entire family of Meta’s apps, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, collectively have 3.88 billion monthly active users, which is nearly half of the world’s population.
Beyond just milestones, the growth of daily active users is of utmost significance for Meta and its investors. Facebook now enjoys 2.064 billion daily active users, a rise from the 2.037 billion reported last quarter. This growth is critical because, in the final quarter of 2021, Facebook experienced its first-ever decline in daily active users.
The increase in active users could be attributed, in part, to the popularity of Reels, Meta’s TikTok-inspired feature, heavily promoted across Instagram and Facebook. According to Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, Reels garner an impressive 200 billion plays per day across all their apps.
Moreover, Threads, the new text-based social platform integrated with Instagram, has been performing remarkably well, as acknowledged by Zuckerberg.
“I believe we have an incredibly exciting roadmap ahead, something I haven’t seen in a while,” said Zuckerberg, expressing his enthusiasm during a recent earnings call, in contrast to concerns over revenue declines.
Threads managed to amass 100 million users within five days of its launch. Admittedly, not all of these users will become dedicated Threads posters. Nevertheless, Zuckerberg proudly mentioned that “tens of millions of people come back daily,” which is an impressive feat.
