Life Is Becoming More Comfortable; We Should Appreciate It

We’ve all heard the things our grandparents say about what life used to be like when they were younger. Dredging through the snow on foot to get to school, cooking meals from raw ingredients, typing on a manual typewriter…well, this is all true. And we should be happy we grew up when we did. Now everything from the devices we work on to the sofas we sit on are designed with our comfort in mind.

If you live in Dubai, you’re already one up on the snow problem. But perhaps you might not be as consciously aware of how much else you have in terms of comfort.  What exactly has changed since your grandparents’ generation, and where is it all going? Let’s take a closer look.

Life Is Becoming More Comfortable; We Should Appreciate It 1

Technology

Again, we tend to roll our eyes when we hear older generations talking about the amount of time it used to take them to write essays, etc. But it’s really true: It could easily take people an hour or more just to type a couple of pages. Many schools offered typing classes in school, and they were brutal. Teachers would cover up the letters so you couldn’t see them, and stricter schools would make you start over from scratch if you made a mistake. More proficient typists had a bit of an advantage over clumsier ones, but the process was still painstaking, and people would have to dab white-out on the paper if they made a mistake.

These days, not only are computers readily available, but every year they become more and more refined to fit user needs. Both PCs and mobiles are constantly evolving to fit our hands better, to be easier to see, and overall to provide a better user experience.

Life comforts

Not only are the devices we work on getting better, but the furniture we sit on when we work are also providing a better experience. Office tables are becoming more and more intelligently designed, so that people have the right amount of space for the things they need. Chairs are made of higher quality materials. For those who choose to work from home, you can get a modular sofa that will allow you to sit comfortably and take care of your business in peace.

This is a far cry from the stiff wooden chairs that people used to have to sit on all day. People now have the luxury to choose from a whole range of design and comfort options for the furniture they work on, depending on their personal needs. You can even get a standing desk if you want! And if you choose to go the couch route, you can find a nice side table Dubai where you can stack your laptop and other essential items.

What does the future hold?

So, given how far we’ve come just in the last century in terms of personal comforts, it is exciting to look towards the future and imagine how much further we can progress. There are many advancements in store in the coming years: For one thing, devices are becoming even further refined, to the point where they are not only more comfortable for people in general, but users will actually have a personal say in how their individual devices work. We will be able to tell our devices how we like things done, alter settings to a fine degree, and overall have more control over the user experience than we ever thought possible before.

Our furniture will similarly change. Designers are thinking more and more about how to provide greater comfort to people. Materials are changing, different options are becoming available in terms of the various levels of softness and hardness that furniture has, and they’re even using more sustainable materials!

Be grateful

In summary, you should be grateful. The next time your grandparents tell you a story about breaking their fingers as they were writing a term paper in college, rather than rolling your eyes at them you should listen and express your gratitude for the things that you have now. And you should be excited about the future as it holds even greater things in store.
