Payday 3 Developers Seek Collaborations With Batman and Die Hard 2

The developers behind Payday 3 have expressed their desire for exciting collaborations with iconic franchises such as Die Hard and Batman. Additionally, they are interested in revisiting the successful John Wick crossover and incorporating a heist set inside the Continental.

Over the years, the Payday series has gained recognition for its crossovers and partnerships with various games and movies. Notable examples include John Wick, Tony Montana from Scarface, Bill Overbeck from Left 4 Dead, and the beloved Jacket from Hotline Miami, complete with his distinctive voice recordings.

Since the proper reveal of Payday 3 at the Xbox Showcase last month, no official announcements have been made regarding potential crossovers in the game’s future. Curious about their aspirations, I recently had the opportunity to visit the Starbreeze offices and discuss the topic with Almir Listo, the community head/brand manager of Payday 3, and Andreas Häll-Penninger, the game’s producer.

When asked about their desired crossovers, Listo immediately suggested the inclusion of John McClane from Die Hard and the iconic Nakatomi Plaza. Furthermore, both Listo and Häll-Penninger expressed their enthusiasm for bringing Batman into the Payday universe.

Listo envisioned a thrilling scenario where John McClane, portrayed by Bruce Willis, would utter the famous line, “It’s John McClane, shoot the glass!” while inside Nakatomi Plaza. As for Batman, they imagined a dramatic entrance, with the Dark Knight descending through shattered glass amidst suspenseful music, wreaking havoc on unsuspecting criminals.

Expanding on the idea of Batman’s involvement, Häll-Penninger commented on the potential for an entire season set in Gotham City. He envisioned a captivating bank robbery at night, where suddenly the Bat-Signal illuminates the sky. In this scenario, the enemies wouldn’t be the usual Cloakers but rather Batman himself, swiftly incapacitating everyone within seconds.

Listo and Häll-Penninger also discussed the possibility of revisiting the successful John Wick crossover from Payday 2. They reminisced about the release of the John Wick character just as the first movie was hitting theatres, a clever way to introduce the character to the world. Considering the immense popularity of the John Wick franchise, they expressed a keen interest in expanding on the collaboration, even suggesting the inclusion of the Continental as a playable level in Payday 3.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Listo mentioned that post-launch collaborations are a possibility, citing Payday 2’s impressive catalogue of over 30 partnerships. Lionsgate, the studio behind the John Wick films, might be open to further discussions regarding Mr. Wick if Payday 3 proves successful.

The developers behind Payday 3 are excited about the potential crossovers and collaborations that could enrich the game’s universe. Die Hard, Batman, and the continuation of the John Wick partnership are just some of the thrilling possibilities players can anticipate in this highly anticipated instalment.
